Big snowflakes have yielded to sleet pellets this morning. Hunters in the fields are sure to be cold and wet… .02 in the rain bucket so far today…
Forcasters are calling for our first freeze of the season as early as this evening. It is the first time that I recall a 70% chance of snow in our forecast.

We are about to begin spraying for pricklypear (cactus) in some strategic areas on the ranch. Over the last few seasons we experimented with top removal as well as shredding over our cactus with mixed results. Conventional wisdom says that it takes about 3 passes over a mature cactus plant to kill it. My expereince says that that is just about right. With the top removal method I’ve observed that if left where the pad touches the ground it will reroot and grow anew…
